October 17-19 2008
2008 Gold Coast Boat Show will be a fun packed event for all the family.
There will be forums on how to catch fish and handle boats plus spectacular wakeboarding demonstrations will be highlights of a value-packed entertainment program.
The show at the Carrara Sports Complex has been designed to provide a fun, informative and inexpensive day out for all the family.
With a multitude of boats and boating & fishing equipment plus personal watercraft and accessories, this event promises to have virtually everything a family needs to get on the water this summer.
A rock-climbing wall, free roving entertainment, a wide variety of food and drink also will be part of the show in the tree-lined surroundings of the Sports Complex.
The Fishing Expo presenters, including fishing media personalities Paul Burt and Dave Downie and Expo organiser Bill Corten, are experienced in Gold Coast estuarine, coastal and offshore waters.
They will host more than 30 sessions over the three days on subjects such as offshore and deepwater fishing, beach and surf fishing, fishing for pelagics and whiting, crabbing, how to fish the Nerang River and Gold Coast Seaway and how to handle boats in a bar crossing.
Lure fishing techniques will be demonstrated using live fish in the giant Reef Science tank, which will be a backdrop to the Expo stage.
A highlight of the Expo at 2 pm daily will be a live weigh-in for the Bream Classic competition.
Each day, 10 “pro” teams representing ABT and Australian Fishing Championships sponsors will weigh their five largest bream at the Expo stage.
Expo organiser Bill Corten said all bream would be kept alive on boats in specially-designed “live wells”, weighed alive, and then released into the Nerang River after the show.
“The best part of the event, though, is that after the weigh-in, the show patrons get access to the anglers and their boats,” Corten said.
“We all know that there's nothing like chewing the fat with some of the best in the business. It's a great way to pick up some hints and tips and an excellent way to see how the products that you see at the show are actually used in the real world.”
Some of the best wakeboarders and water-skiers in Australia will perform live every day on the Nerang River, in easy view of Show visitors.
The Gold Coast Boat Show is expected to display boats of all sizes, but is likely to highlight the popularity of trailerable boats on the coast, where more than 80 percent of the 26,000 registered craft are less than six metres long.
Marine Queensland Event Manager Jason Plant said the Gold Coast was the State’s largest boating community, with 13 percent of all registered boats, and was a driving force in the six percent annual growth of boat ownership.
